The FX Medical Assistant was produced by Medtech Industries and is now obsolete, it was developed to be a nursing aid for organic physicians. While a doctor was using a lasers on an ailing patients chest the FX would administer anesthesia, monitor vital signs, and hand over scaples and sponges. But with the success of the new all-in-one medical droids like Genetech's 2-1B helped to pull the legs out from under medical-aid droids. The FX droid is a unit that is built at 1.7 meters tall and is designed to be cylindrical and essentially symmetrical on all sides, and they bear no resemblance to the standard humanoid form. Medtech's engineers did not worry about mobility in the design because if the unit needed to be move it had to be pysically dragged. The units cylindrical body holds twenty precise manipulator arms on a rotating base. Some of the arms are capped with grippers, some with medical tools, and all can be customized to suit a particular task or surgical procedure. The limbs are lightweight and quite fragile, but since the FX is rarely subject to abuse this is not a problem, and when its arms are not in use they fold in flat groves on the side of the body. Right above the droids appendages is the units primary grasping arm, which is a telescoping limb and is much stronger than the rest and is used for heavier everyday work. The arm can extend nearly one meter. The FX's head is capable of rotating 360 degrees and is fitted with visual sensors and other scanning devices, and its limited vocoder is capable of communicating in droid or computer languages. The head is also equipped with several monitor screens and one on the body its self, which display printed information in Basic, or show charts, graphs, and schematics. All of the FX's have an analytical computer, and a respectable medical diagnostic package. If the droid and their scomp-link port is linked to a surgeon droid or a hospital mainframe, the FX will then operate with less lag time. The FX units are very good droids, and during their entire production history Medtech Industries received astonishingly very few complaints. But the newer 2-1B's, and Emdees are superior in almost every respect, and FX units lack the intellegence and hardware to compete, and due to this Medtech Industries retired the line years ago. The FX droid is still common on thousands of planets mainly in the Expansion Region and Outer Rim, and also in the strapped Rebel Alliance which was quite fond of this droids. With the proper programming FX units make superior bacta tank operators, despite theor antiquity many are owned by the Xucphra and Zaltin bacta conglomerates on Thyferra.
