The planet of Alderaan was probally the most renounted planet in the galaxy and one of the grandist planets in the entire galaxy. As the famous poet Hari Seldona wrote of its "calm, vast skies...oceans if grass...lovely flying thrantas." Alderaan was a place of high culture and education, because of the Alderaan University, the natives loved to land and work with the University rather than change it or destroy it. The University's grounds supported more than 8,000 subspecies if grass and even more numerous wildflowers. The Artists planeted huge grass paintings that could be kilometers square and that could be only seen from flying observation boats. The Alderaan cuisine also was known throughout the galaxy, which was based on Alderaan's delicious meats of grazers and nerfs along with the native exotic herbs, flowers, and grain. There were no oceans on Alderaan but the planet had an ice-rimmed polar sea and thousands of lakes and gentle waterways plied by vacation barges. Some of Alderaan's most imposing sights was the Castle Lands. Alderaan was ruled by the democratic Viceroy and First Chairman Bail Organa, and durring the Clone Wars Alderaan took the heart of horrors that killed millions and devastated countless planets. After the Clone Wars the people of Alderaan wholeheartedly adopted pacisfism and banned all weapons from the planets surface. All the remaining super weapons were placed aboard a transport named Another Chance, and it was programed to jump through hyperspace continually unless called back by the planets Counsil of Elders. When Senator Palpatine began to take control of the Senate, Alderaan began to support the growing opposition to his rule. Mon Mothma even has given the credit for the Rebellion to Bail Organa, Mon Mothma and Bail Organa both gave up there seats in the Galactic Senate. His adopted daughter Princess Leia Organa began to run secret missions for the Rebellion while being a member of the Senate. Before Alderaan offically joined the Rebellion against the Empire, Grand Moff Tarkin had his Death Star destroy Alderaan in a show of the Empires might.
