One of the most famous planets in the entire Galaxy is the Capital World of Coruscant, it has been long considered the center of the galaxy and even it coordinates confirm that zero-zero-zero. Coruscant is the center for the Galactic Goverment. Almost every inch of the planets surface is covered with enormous multi-level buildings, that just keep growing up from the orginal foundations down near the planets surface. The oldest and most densly populated sectors of the planet are near its equator, which are dotted with kilometer high towers and even a few that reach into the lower parts of the atmosphere. The entire city is filled with lights from going and coming craft, and once there were even personal skyhooks (gaint satilites in low orbit served as self-contained habitats) and were owned by the richest or most influental citizens, but all skyhooks were grounded by the New Republic for safty reasons. The tallest building on the planet is the Imperial Palace which was formerly known as the Presidental Palace, and is constructed of gray-green rock and sparkling crystals, and it even is taller than the neighboring Senate Building. The Palace has been said to be indestructable and inpenatrable, and it is decorated with hanging gardens, marble pyramids, and crystal roofs. When the Emperor took the palace over he decorated it some of the areas in the palace with old patterns based on Old Sith Hieroglyphics. The palace contains the Grand Corridor, that links the Senate Chamber to the Assemmbly Auditorium. A cross hallway is linked with suites that leads to the Inner Council Meeting Room. The Grand Corridor was designed by Emperor Palpatine, and features a high ceiling, cut-glass windows, and is lined with greenish-purple, vibration sensitive Ch'hala trees (which were reviled to be part of an elaborate survallence system). Other parts of Coruscant include the Grand Towers, The Skydome Botanical Gardens, The Underground City of Dometown, the Holographic Zoo of Extinct Aniamls, and the Galactic Museum, that holds ancient Sith Artifacts from 4,000 years before the Battle of Yavin. Monument Plaza is a popular mall that is built around one of the peaks in the Manarai Mountain Range, were vistors can acually touch bare rock. The clock in the Centeral Gathering Area for the past 300 years has marked the hour by spreading light across the sky. The lowest levels of the planet are unihabited area except by scavengers and nameless subhumans, and because of the danger the lowest 40 or 50 levels area restricted from normal traffic, and it is also said that there is a tavern down in the lower levels that hasn't seen sun light in 90,000 years. The planets orbit is far enough from the sun that orbital mirrors are needed to keep the planets nonequitoral regions at a comfortable tempature level. Coruscant's polar regions are really the only area that aren't covered by buildings, but there are place to turbo-ski resorts, and are continuosly mined by ice-boring machines, because the planets inland seas and oceans have been long since drained the ice is piped in by huge pipelines. Coruscant's defenses include a Golan III orbital space-docking faculity, and powerful energy shield generators protect the planet itself. After Emperor Palpatine's death the Empire was ruled by Sate Pestage for about six months untill forced into exile by a group of Imperial Advisors, who were supplanted by Director of Imperial Intelligence Ysanne Isard. The New Republic realized that Coruscant was a powerful symbol, the center of power, authority, and order, and who ever controlled it would be perceived as the rightful sucessor to galactic rule. Mebers of Rouge Squadron were sent in to take the shield generators off line, and then Admiral Ackbar and the New Republic Fleet came in to capture the planet. Then five years after the Battle of Endor, Grand Admiral Thrawn attacked the New Republic on Coruscant and blockaded the planet using a group of cloaked asteroids.
