The world of Mimban is the fifth planet in the Circarpous System, and is a cloud-covered swamp world that is largely unexplored. This world is offically labled Circarpous V but usually referred to by its local name Mimban, is lush greenm crisscrossed with muddy brown riveres, and is teeming with many life forms. The world has never been colonized by the Circarpousians, but the Empire secretly established a mining operation on the planet. The miners lived in five makeshift towns and worked with energy drills-illegal on populated worlds because of their harmful electrical fallout creates a hazard for incoming spaceships. There are atleast three intelligent Mimban species: the large-eyed Mimbanites, derogatorily called "greenies," that beg in the mining towns for alcohol; the thin, gray Coway, who live underground; and an unnamed furry species with four legs and four arms. A mysterious, long extinct species to be known as the Thrella are belived to have built hundreds of temples and cities that dot the damp surface of Mimban. The Imperial control of Mimban was intrusted to Captain-Supervisor Grammel, who ruled from the Imperial planetary headquaters built into an ancient towering ziggurat. The legendary Kaiburr crystal was rumored to have properties that focus and intensify the Force, and was located deep in the jungle in the temple of a minor local god named Pomojema. The powerful crystal rested within a ceremonial statue of the god and was guarded by a sluggish creature. Soon after the Battle of Yavin Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, C-3PO, and R2-D2 crash landed on Mimban on there way to a confrence on Circarpous IV, and after facing many dangers, including a showdown with Darth Vader, the Rebels were able to escape and retrieve the Kaiburr Crystal.
