The world of Nal Hutta is a bruised-looking green, blue, and brown planet in the Y'Toub Ststem, and its name means "Glorious Jewel" in Huttese. Nal Hutta is one of the main planets settled by the Hutts after they left their ancestral home of Varl. To despite the planets immensity its extremely low density gives a tolerable gravity. Many years ago the planet was known as Evocar and was the homeworld of the Evocii, but when the Hutts arrived they traded technology to the Evocii in exchange for land, eventually buying up the planet and forcing the Evocii from their homeworld. The Old Republic relocated the evicted Evocii to the near by Nar Shaddaa moon, but they fared no better there. Once the Hutts controlled the entire planet they replaced all Evocii structures with Hutt palaces and shrines and renamed the planet itself. The planet was once a pleasent world with mountanious rain forests, but the Hutts have transformed it into a gloomy planet of stinking bogs, stagnant scum-covered puddles, and patches of sickly marsh grass inhabited by insects and spiders. The planets remaining large and clumsy birds are shot down by swoop-riding hunters. The atmospher of Nal Hutta is polluted by strip-mining in Nal Hutta's industrial centers, and a greasy rain drizzles on its squatters' villiges and ghettos. Nal Hutta and its moon Nar Shaddaa are at the center of Hutt Space and host a constant traffic of freight haulers, smugglers, and other galactic traders. The world is ruled by a council of the eldest members of the Clans of the Ancients, the oldest Hutt familes. Nal Huttas' population is nearly seven billion, and three billion of them Hutts. The world of Nar Shaddaa is an ungoverened "smugglers' moon" that orbits near Nal Hutta, and is completly covered by interlocking spaceport facilities and kilometers of high docking towers reaching nearly to orbit. The city was built over thousands of years and is protected by often-malfunctioning planetary shields. Nar Shaddaa was once bustling with legitament trade but Nar Shaddaa quickly lost prestige as hyperspace lanes shifted away. Nar Shaddaa is quiet far away from galactic trade lanes and the center of the galaxy so it runs its own affairs with little interference. Nar Shaddaa is controlled by the Hutts and is the birth place of the famous Jabba the Hutt. Nar Shaddaa was orginally given to the displaced Evocii as a new homeworld after the Hutts forced them from the near by Nal Hutta. | |
