The planet of Onderon is one of three planets in the Onderon System, and it circles a yellow sun with four moons that orbit it that have varying orbits. The closets of the moons Dxun is home to numerous bloodthirsty creatures who are able to migrate to the surface of Onderon annually, when the two worlds atmospheres intersect. The humans of Onderon gradually evolved defenses against the beasts, culminating in the enormous walled city of Iziz. Some 4,000 years before the Galactic Civil War and Dark Jedi by the name of Freedon Nadd brought the power of the sith to Onderon, and those that opposide him were cast out into the forests. Where they tamed the beasts of Dxun, and hundreds of these beast riders continually live in their own kingdoms while trying to fight to take over Iziz. Almost four centuries later the planet of Onderon was contacted by the Old Republic, and a delegation of Jedi, that included Ulic Qel-Droma, was sent to make pease between the beast riders and the Queen Amanoa of Iziz. Following the death of Queen Amanoa her daughter Galia took the throne with her husband Oron Kira the leader of the beast people. A subsequent uprising caused by this and put on by Freedon Nadd was put down by another Jedi force, and at the same time Satal Keto and his cousin Aleema, members of the royalty, traveled to Onderon to learn the secrets of the Sith Magic. Following the uprising the Jedi built a perment outpost on Onderon, and as the was was winding down the Dark Jedi Exar Kun ordered the warrior clans of Mandalore to capture Onderon and the city of Iziz. The Mandalores were defeted by Oron Kira and Captain Vanicus of the Republic Navy, and with the defet the Mandalore fled to the Dxun moon.
