The planet of Taanab is normally a peaceful world but it also has been the location of a small and significant battle against pirates where Lando Calrissian earned his reputation as a good military strategist. The pirates have been the bane of Taanab's peaceful farmers for millennia, and some 4,000 years before the Galactic Civil War, the frieghter Kestrel Nova was captured from space pirates near the planet and was used by Jedi Ulic Qel-Droma to travel to the Tentan System. Still years later the planet was still plagued by raids by pirates from the near by planet of Norulac. One of these years Calrissian was in the Taanab Pandath spaceport when the pirates attacked, and after his ship was damaged he agreed to attack the pirates (on a bet thought). Calrissian hid his ship in the ice ring surrounding Taanab's moon and when the pirates made there run he ejected hundreds of conner nets into the attacking pirate fleet. While the pirates struggled to untangle themselves Calrissian hit them with blocks of ice from the moon's ring, and causing even further damage. Calrissian then lead the Taanab defense fleet in a cleanup operation. Some five years after the Battle of Endor the mad Jedi Clone Joruus C'baoth coordinated an Imperial attack on Taanab, where he used turbolasers of the Bellicose to destroy a New Republic ship against the direct orders of Captain Aban.
