The Man Trap is a favorate of slavers and bounty hunters since its reverse repulsorfield intensifies a planet's gravity that creates a very strong field that is localized over the trap's projection plates. The settings on the trap are measured as multipliers of the local gravity, which range from one (the planets gravity) to an eightfold increase in the planet's gravity. The man trap is a one square meter metal plate that is barely five cenimeters tall, and since there is no external machinery it makes the trap very easy to set up and move. Also since it is so small it is easily camouflaged with leaves, topsoil, and other ground clutter, and since many species can see into the infrared spectrum the unit is equipped with infrared bafflers to hide the man trap's heat emissions. The man trap is equipped with a remote activator that is linked to the trap with a ten meter long activation line. The man trap is designed to facilitate nonlethal captures, but sprains, dislocations, and even broken bones are possible since the victims may fall at an odd angle. This trap is sold for around 8,000 credits, but it weights only eight kilograms and can be set up in less than two minutes, and its power cells supply energy for up to three hours of continuous operation. | |
