Medpacs are emergency medical kits that are used in the field to treat minor injuries and to stabilize badly injured patients unit they can be transported to an advanced medical facility. Medpacs are inexpensive kits that only cost around one hundred credits each, but they carry a wide variety of medicines and emergency-care tools. Also the medpacs are equipped with internal diagnostic computers that offer a complete description of essential procedures, which means that being with no medical training can use the medpac effectively. The Chiewab GLiS (General Life-Sustaining) medpac is a basic medpac, that is capable of helping to treat contusions, broken bones, burns, and traumatic injuries. The internal computer on the GLiS is capable of storing only one species treatment procedure at a time (typically humans), this is not the only species it can carry, the user can always purchase program modules for thousands of other species. The GLiS is also equipped with a limited diagnostics scanner, which is used to monitor the paticents vital signs constantly. The standard medicines in the medpac usally include coagulants to stop bleeding, healing salves and sterilizers used to treat burns, and antiseptic irrigation bulbs and disinfectant pads that cleanse wounds and prevent infections. Most of the medpacs are also equipped with small bacta patches that can be used to promote the healing of traumatized tissues. The pacs stim-shots and adrenaline boosters are used to help keep the paticent alert and to prevent him/her from going into shock, while the painkillers and localized nerve anesthetics reduce discomfort. Also the medpacs general-use antibiotics, countertoxins, and immunity boosters can be used to treat patients subjected to poisons, animal venoms, diseases, and infectious microbes, thus stabilizing a patient untill he/she arrives at a health facility where more potent countertoxins can be administered. All the medicines in the GLiS medpac can be applied through patches or painlessly injected with a spray hypo. The GLiS is also equipped with a bone stabilizer and several spray splints that immobilize and protect broken bones. There are more advanced and expensive medpacs in the galaxy and one of these is the BioTech FastFlesh medpac. This one is designed for use by trained medics, and has a much larger assortment of medicines. These types of advanced medpacs are excellent for use in the battlefield, and they offer multiple spray splints, large supplies of stimulants and body boosters, and advanced synthe-nutrient replicators that sustain patients with vital nutrients. The specilized medicines in the FastFlesh can counteract the effects of radiation, biological poisons, and nerve agents. Also the FastFlesh includes a canister of chromostring, which offers deeper penetration of healing agents without causing nerve damage. This medpac is equipped with several instruments for emergency field surgery, which includes a sonic scalpel, a laser cauterizer, and nerve and tissue regenerators. The diagnostic computer database on the FastFlesh has files on over five hundred diffrent species and is linked to the units remote scanner and a sample analyzer that can identify poisons, toxins, and unknown compounds. The FastFlesh's computer automatically stores a record of the patient's condition for later refrence. This medpac cost around five hundred credits and is widely used by emergency-care technicians, including many New Republic medics. | |
