Fresh water is the one thing that is essentia for survial, but on some worlds it is so scarce that it must be coaxed from the air by devices known as vaporators. Vaporators are found on many worlds, but are best known for their use on the planet of Tatooine. The Pretormin Enviormental GX-8 Water Vaporator is a vaporator that stands five-meters-tall, and projects a low-power ionization field that causesrefrigerated cylinders and chilling bars to cool the surrounding air. This refridgeration cause the air to began condensation even in eviorments where the humidity is as low as 1.35 percent. The moisture then condenses on the vaporators chilled surface and then trickles down into a collection chamber, where it is then pumped into the vaporator's large underground storage tanks. The GX-8's computer controlls and automatically adjusts the ionization and refridgeration levels to acoount for wind speed and external tempature. The energy needed to run the vaporator is stored in energy cells that are charged by retractable solar pannels. On the desert world of Tatooine these vaporators can be set 250 meters appart and can usally be expected to collect 1.5 litters of water per day. But in more arid areas like the areas near the Dune Sea, the moisture vaporators need to be set 500 meters appart to achive the same water yield. Since the functions of the vaporators are quite limited they use binary programming languages. The greatest foe to the moisture farmer and their vaporators are blowing sand, which gets into the vaporator's lubricants and can disable the refrigeration machinery unless it is removed promptly. The norm on Tatooine for moisture farmers is a single-family farm that usally covers around a range of several square kilometers. The risk of moisture farming is a great risk because even a minuscule water loss can mean the diffrence between survial and bankruptcy. Their was one notable exception, and this was the sprawling ranch of Huff Darklighter, whos farm covered hundred and maybe even thousands of square kilometers. As the demand for water grows, the moisture farmers keep moving into unexplored territory, which means that clashes with Sand People are becoming more common. To counter part of this most of the vaporators one Tatooine are protected by security locks or voice recognition scanners that discourage attacks. Most of the times the large underground storage tanks are located near the farmers house so that the farmer can personally fend of Tusken Raider attacks. Moisture farmers usally have diffrent ways of selling their water, which range from taking their water directly into Mos Eisley spaceport for sale or they can ship it into the city via a pipline, or they can even sell it to a broker. There are even some farms that use the water to maintain underground hydroponics labs where vegetables are grown for later sale in Mos Eisley. In Mos Eisley the city has set up many vaporators to collect the water vapor exhaled by the city's residents, and scouts often carry small vaporators in their survial kits, while many escape pods are equipped with personal vaporators to provide fresh water to stranded pilots and crew.
