The diamond boron missile was designed at the height of the Galactic Civil War between the Empire and Rebellion, it was designed to be an element of an antistarfighter missile system. It was designed to destroy multiple ships in a single blast that would consume everything in a fifty meter blast radius. The unlaunched diamond boron missile is a sleek one-meter-long tube that can be fired in any standard large concussion missile launcher. The extendable dorsal and ventral flanges at the rear of the missile provide an additional layer of armor and improve atmospheric maneuverability. As the missile speeds toward its target the diamond boron armored plates expand outward, this makes the missile almost impervious to starfighter laser cannons, but turbolasers are powerful enough to destroy the missile, but normally there targeting systems can't hit this small of a target. The missile's high-powered rockets outpace even proton torpedeos and concussion missiles and they offer a flight time of up to 10 minutes, and the thrust-vector plates inside the exhaust nozzles give the missile outstanding maneuverability. The diamond boron missile can even be programmed with detonation coordinates or it can be set to explode when the internal sensor suite detects a specified number of enemy vessel. Gunners can also guide the missile remotely, but this approach renders the missile vulnerable enemy jamming systems. The diamond boron missile was first tested when the Bothans', Dash Rendar, and Luke Skywalker tryed to steel the second Death Stars technical readouts. The missile was able to take out four Y-Wings and killing eight Bothans after being launched from the cargo frieghter Suprosa. Even thought the diamond boron missile has major advantages it has never gained wide acceptance, because each missile cost nearly 20,000 credits. Also the reputation of the missile has been further tarnished by incidents where a faulty warheads exploded in storage. | |
