Gavin Darklighter is cousin to the Rogue Squadron legend Biggs Darklighter, he is tall, and has brown hair. Gavin was a sixteen-year-old farm boy on Tatooine when Wedge Antillies pushed for his inclusion in the squadron over the objections of General Salm. Wedge's faith in the young Darklighter was quickly rewarded when Gavin's simulator scores put him near the top of his class. He later fought in battles at Chorax and Hensara III without incident or distinction. Then during a night raid by Imperial Stormtroopers at Rogue Squadron's hidden base on Talasea, he was seriously wounded by blaster fire, but he miraculously survived. After that he then participated in the retaliatory strikes against the Imperial bases at Vladet and both times at Borleias. Then when Rogue Squadron went on the reconnaissance mission to Courscant he was along with them, he helped the Rogues and their mission there to get a feel for the general mood of the alien population prior to an Alliance invasion. None of the Alliance's training could have prepaired the squadron for what they found in one of the aliens quaters, Invisec. While at the Azure Dianoga cantina, Gavin made the mistake of rejecting the advances of Asyr Sei'lar, a female Bothan. He was then brought before the Alien Combine on charges of bigotry, he then narrowly escaped from death by the combine, then at the same time he barley escaped from the squad of stormtroopers that subsequently raided the combine's hideout. In a turn of events during the battle, Sei'lar and the combine members realized that Gavin and the other Rogues were not their foes, and in turn they joined forces with the Rogues against the Empire. The groups first attempt to bring down Courscant's shields ended in dismal failure at the Palar warhouse. While they tried to switch the remanufactured memory cores, their team was assaulted by stormtroopers. They then regrouped and Gavin came up with the idea of "taking the planet by storm," which meant they needed to create a massive thunderstorm. They used the thunderstorms electrical charges from its lighting strikes to short out the entire power system. The plan worked and in turn brought down the shields, which allowed the Alliance invasion fleet to send ground troops in. Gavin Darklighter after the Courscant invasion stayed with Rogue Squadron and to this day he's still with the squadron keeping peace within the New Republic, and fighting the remains of the Galactic Empire.
