The Alliance/New Republic B-Wing Fighter was the most powerful heavy-assault starfighter, it was designed to take on capital ships, at only 4 meters longer that the famed X-wing it packs a deadly punch. The B-Wing was designed by Admiral Ackbar with help from engineers at Verpine Slayn and Korpil colines, later they helped redesign the B-wing into the Expanded B-wing. The ship was designed smooth and flat with a body that folds up into a plan to help reduce no-combat stress, and the complex gyrostablizing system often locks down and causes the wings to lock in assmebly position which makes turing the ship harder without putting stress on the ships body. The B-Wing is also one of the hardest fighters to handle and few Alliance pilots are qualified to fly it. The advanced targeting computer links the performence of the Ion Cannons, and proton-torpedo launchers together giving the ship maxium firepower against a single target. In the B-wing's standard configuration each wing has a ion cannon and a third ion cannon on the base of the main wing, it also has a laser cannon and an emission-type proton-torpedo launcher mounted on the wings, and another torpedo launcher above the engines, a pair of auto-blasters are mounted in the nose of the cockpit module. The engineers purposly made the weapon points modular so they could move the weapons and reconfigure the weapons set up, and they could be reconfigured within a few hours. Each of the B-wings is fitted with a single immense Quadex Kyromaser engine with four individually adjusted thrust nozzels. The engine is fed by a single Vinop O2 K Ionization Reactor and four Slayn & Korpil JZ-5g7 power convertors. The ship also has four cooling plats to vent and disapate the exhaust heat. The B-wing is fitted with a Class Two hyperdrive unit and is only half as fast as the X-wing starfighter, and unlike other Alliance fighters the B-wing has a navigational computer but it can only store two sets of jump coordinates. | |
